You may have noticed that the building at 42 Church Road, where the Meeting Place Community Hub was located for most of 2015, has now been demolished and the site is currently being redeveloped. The Meeting Place Community Hub has therefore relocated to Bookham Baptist Church.
We have been at our new temporary premises since January this year and are open on Mondays Fridays and Saturdays 10.00 – 12noon with a limited amount of stock available to buy but masses of space to have coffee and chat and for children to play. The local toddlers are loving it (as are their carers). We can offer specialist coffees and tea, cakes and biscuits are supplied by The Grange. There is space to meet friends plus a children’s soft play area too.
Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) now offers drop in sessions at the St Nicolas Pastoral Centre on Tuesday mornings once a month. Sight for Surrey, Surrey Hubs and Wellers Hedleys solicitors are holding sessions at The Meeting Place at Bookham Baptist Church (for more information on dates please check our website or Facebook page).
The Meeting Place – TMP for short – has several ‘Hubs’. The combined Community Hub and Coffee Shop is open at Bookham Baptist Church on Mondays Fridays and Saturdays 10-12 noon. Another aspect of The Meeting Place is the ‘Language Hub’. Small, friendly classes teach English as a second language to the growing international community in Bookham. Our students pay a small fee for a block of six sessions, which covers the cost of materials. The day and evening classes are led by fully trained teachers of English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).
The Meeting Place (Bookham) is a community project that aims to provide help, advice and resources to local people by connecting those in need with the facilities of local churches and other organisations that are in a position to help.
We are on the lookout for suitable premises within the village, if you know of anything that is available please contact one of the Trustees or team.
We would welcome volunteers who would like to come along and chat to folk during any of our sessions, so again please do not hesitate to contact one of us.
