St Nicolas

easterfamilyfunWe’ve had a busy spring here at St Nicolas and as always it’s been one which we’ve really enjoyed.  We’ve had two family fun events, in February half term and on Good Friday and welcomed many different families from the area to the Church.   We thought about the themes of love and Easter at each event and the children who joined us had lots of fun.  The Easter family fun was an especially popular event and we were delighted to see so many families.  The children had a wonderful time baking and making everything imaginable to do with Easter as well as planting up some Spring-time flowers to take home and getting their faces painted.

There’ll be a bit of a break now before the next family fun event which will be on Saturday 9th July 2pm-4pm in the Pastoral Centre and the garden next to it.  As always there’ll be crafts, games, toys for all ages, a crèche area, tea and cake, face painting and a story.  We’re hoping that the Great British Summer will be kind to us and that this will all be in the sunshine!  We will also have a TotsAlive! Stall at village day so please do come and find us there as well!

TotsAlive! is our Mum and pre-schooler group who meet every Wednesday in term time between 1:30pm & 3:30pm in the Church Room.  At 2pm the Children spend a short time in the Church hearing a story and singing some songs.   New parents/grandparents/carers are always welcome to join us for the afternoon.  We have toys, playdough, painting and crafts for the children and you can get a cup of tea and have a chat.  Special dates for the summer term are; May 11th when we will celebrate the TotsAlive! birthday with puppets & a special party tea and July 20th when we will have a picnic in the Pastoral Centre Garden before breaking up for the Summer term (bring your own picnic lunch).  Anyone is very welcome to join us.

An event we are particularly looking forward to this June is our weekend celebration for the Queen’s 90th birthday.  On Saturday June 11th we will be serving cream teas on the Church site and there will be a display of flowers in the Church over the weekend.  Keep an eye on our website for full details!

Another popular event which is coming soon is the Wine Tasting evening which will be on Saturday May 7th in The Old Barn Hall.  The event includes a four course dinner and of course wine!  You can find everything you’ll need to know about this event on our website in the “Upcoming Events,” section.

If you ever want to join us we meet for a traditional service with our choir at 10am on Sunday and a more modern one with our worship band at 4:30pm –after coffee and cake – with a children’s group during and a youth group afterwards (6pm).  Every 3rd Sunday will be an All Age service (a service suitable for children).  We have a children’s corner with toys, books etc. available at every service.

Celebration of the Queen’s 90th Birthday

Churches are being encouraged to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday and her role as head of the Church of England.  The intention is to have such a celebration at St. Nicolas Church in Bookham on Saturday 11th June.

The church will be decorated with flowers and memorabilia.  There will be music in the church as well as Morning Coffee from 1030-1200 and afternoon tea from 1400-1630. So please keep the date free and we hope that you can join us and be part of these celebrations.
