As the weather warmed up the children at Polesden Lacey Playschool were learning about helping hands. We have been incredibly lucky and had visits from some of our wonderful parents whose job it is to help people (e.g. physiotherapists). A huge thank you to you all for giving your time. We also had two amazing visits from some very special helping hands. One was from our fantastic local PSCO, Marion Hawkins who took the time to speak to all of the children and show them how to cross the road safely. Her visit was incredibly memorable and we have heard many of the children explaining to adults how to stay safe on the way to and from school. We also had a fun filled morning with some of the amazing firefighters from Leatherhead Fire station. The children dressed in the appropriate gear and clambered aboard the fire engine. They also got to water the grass using the hose! The siren was a high point for many of the children and inspired them to race around the playground imitating the engine and firefighters.
Our term was rounded off with a spectacular Easter Show. The children worked together and sung their hearts out demonstrating their unbelievable acting and singing skills. We had chicks chirping, frogs jumping and cooks baking hot cross buns. One of the favourites was the ‘Rabbit Hokey Pokey’ in which the little bunnies hopped in, out, round and round, wiggling their paws, ears and powder puff tails. The show was followed by an Easter egg search in the orchard organised by our extraordinary committee and great fun was had by all.
We have now moved onto learning about fairy tales. The children have been busy acting out Goldilocks and the three Bears and are using it as an opportunity to learn about sizes and textures. They are also sharing their favourite fairy tales with their friends, classmates and teachers bringing in props and toys to bring the tales to life.
This term we will also be raising money for the playschool by completing our annual Trike Ride. The children will take to our playground track with a variety of wheeled apparatus to speed around the course and complete as many laps as they can in one minute. In previous years the children have used trikes, pushchairs, scooters and more to help raise a tremendous amount which goes to buy extra resources. In fact the first year we held this event we managed to purchase the track we now race on!
