Wth the clocks going forward at Easter and extra hours of glorious daylight you would be hard pressed to find somewhere busier and more able to make use of every single minute of the working day than at Polesden Lacey Infant School.
The spring term has been jam packed with activity everywhere you look! Rabbit Class have been learning about animal habitats, creating a wonderful zoo within their classroom and welcoming their own pets into the playground for the ever popular Rabbit Class Pet Show!
Squirrel Class delivered a wonderful assembly sharing all they have learned about the rainforest – did you know a sloth only goes to the toilet once a week? Badger Class have been putting island life under the spotlight in the shape of Katie Morag’s Island of Struay as well as creating their own forms of illumination powered by electrical circuits.
While all this mental stimulation has been taking place the children and staff alike have undertaken a new initiative completing ‘a mile a day,’ be it walking, jogging or running, emphasizing the link between a healthy mind and a healthy body. They have also focused on the importance of swapping sugary drinks and sweets for healthier low sugar or no sugar options with Badger Class children producing an excellent display graphically illustrating actual sugar quantities in relation to a variety of popular brands.
As well as learning how to care for themselves the children display a great desire to help others. This term they voted to raise money for the charity Water Aid realising the plight of those for whom clean water simply isn’t a tap turn away. In the coming summer term their money raising plans will come to fruition in the form of a variety of ideas ranging from a wishing well collecting coins in a bottle to a colour themed mufti day.
Closer to home plans are beginning to shape up for this year’s Summer Fair on Saturday July 2nd from 11.00am – 1.00pm and of course the June highlight that is Village Day. Not to mention all the exciting trips and activities the children have planned for the summer term – Nower Wood, Windsor Castle and The British Wildlife Centre to name but a few. We may in theory lose an hour when the clocks go forward but time really does fly when you are having fun and with all the added benefits that health and fitness bring there’s no doubt that the children and staff at Polesden Lacey Infants School are certainly going to seize and make use of every single minute!
