Although its been a little while since you last read about the club’s activities, rest assured we have been enjoying some great wine tasting. The year started with an informative presentation by Ben Wyse from Gonzalez Byass on the “Best of Spanish Wine”. Ben brought along 7 wines for us to sample including a brand new Brut Reserva and a rare sweet sherry produced from the palomino grape. We moved continent for our meetings In February and March with a trip to Argentina and Mexico respectively. The mighty Malbec featured heavily in the presentation by Dominic Crolla from Las Bodegas; perhaps the most well known wine to come out of Argentina and well liked by the members. We were also delighted to try a Malbec-Pinot Noir blend which had made it into Decanters Top 50 Wines list for 2015. Club members were pleasantly surprised by the quality and price of the Mexican wines presented by Richard Bost from Amethyst Wines. We also learnt some interesting historical facts; the wine-producing Baja Peninsula is home to the oldest winery in the Americas and dates from 1597!
Looking ahead to the summer programme we will be treated to wines from Slovenia (courtesy of Blice Wine) and Portugal (with Marta Vine) and we’re also looking forward to tasting wines selected by one of our club members at an event called “Vive La Difference”. In addition to our regular meetings the committee are also planning a special summer event to be held in August at the Old Barn Hall.
If you enjoy wine but would like to know more, why don’t you come along to one of our monthly meetings. Further details can be obtained by emailing our Membership secretary: email@example.com. Alternatively pop along to our stall in the Harrison Room at Village Day for a tasting and chat.
