Always gluttons for punishment members filled the Old Barn Hall for our annual Quiz Night in the forlorn hope that this year the questions might be easier! Believe it or not they appeared to be. We had a great evening, full of fun and laughter helped by good food and the hope that the troughs of spring plants – which were for the winning table – might be theirs this year. We were very pleased to welcome members from Bookham U3A who were part of the ‘runners up’ table and were also given prizes.
Our yearly Group Leaders’ Lunch is our way of saying ‘Thank you’ to them for their hard work throughout the year and also gives them the opportunity to meet and talk about the work their groups do to other leaders. Apart from monthly meetings it gives them chance discuss any problems they may have encountered and the Committee the opportunity to pass on up-to-date information on the general running of the organisation and how it might affect Fetcham U3A. Again it is a happy occasion and always very well attended.
The Cream Tea is the next advertised event on our calendar and we are hoping for a fine day so that we can enjoy the surroundings, food and music from The Band from the Pub. Various other things are in the pipeline including a visit to the Supreme Court – to ‘sit in’ on a case – followed by a visit to one of the Masonic Lodges in London. Our cruise in July has created a good amount of interest both from Fetcham and surrounding U3As. It is always a pleasure to meet members of other U3As and swopping information and views sometimes brings surprising results.
The Battle Proms visit to Highclere Castle (aka Downton Abbey) in August will surely be a highlight as it includes a Spitfire, Cavalry, Cannons, Fireworks and of course Music. It will be interesting to find out where the Spitfire comes into the picture whether in a fly past or on the ground to be looked at and if members are nimble enough to be climbed into!
Our Barn Dance in October is always popular; then before we know it it will be our Christmas Event the details of which are being kept under wraps for the present. Then we start all over again in January 2017. Our Membership Secretary – Tony – is always pleased to answer any questions you may have about membership. Please contact him by ringing 01372 457741. We look forward to welcoming you – perhaps for a taster visit?
