Spring Time at Peter Pan Playschool

The Spring Term has been a busy and fun-filled time at Peter Pan Playschool.   Before half-term the Nursery Rhymes topics resulted in the children bringing home some great creations including a Humpty Dumpty which fell off its wall, big fluffy sheep and spiders stuck in paper plate webs!   During Chinese New Year week we created a large dragon, made paper chain snakes (as it is the year of the snake), gave the home corner a spring clean and made spring rolls.

After half-term the children have enjoyed learning about People Who Help including the Police Force, Ambulance Service and Firefighters.  They particularly enjoyed a visit to the playschool by the local Fire Service with the children having a go with the fire hose and taking turns to sit in the fire-engine.  There was also a visit by PC Tim who came and talked to the children about what police do, how to be safe when out and about and all loved taking turns in trying on his police hat.   In the garden the children have been busy using magnifying glasses to find clues and find hiding children and putting out fires on their pretend bonfires plus much more.  We have also been doing experiments discovering what happens to water when its placed in the freezer then left out again, finding which items float or sink and what happens when you mix food dyes then continued this with mixing paint.

The children and staff have loved spending lots more time out in their fabulous new garden.  The new artificial grass has meant that on snowy and rainy days the children have been going home without muddy boots - much appreciated by the parents at home-time!  The children have enjoyed building snowmen, making dens in the wigwam and taking part in show-jumping games on their hobby horses.  The new willow den has been very popular and after half-term became a stables, a fire station and a police-station.

Thank you to Chris Edge Tree Care Ltd and his team who returned in March to fill a raised bed, borders and lots of new planters and tubs with sensory planting, herbs and colourful flowers.  Next term the other raised bed will be filled with the vegetables the children have been growing from seeds this term.

On Red Nose Day Peter Pan Playschool raised over £40 for Comic Relief - the children and staff came to playschool dressed in red and then decorated cakes which they sold to the parents.
